Lake Acworth Learn to Kayak Class & Guided Tour

Not at all. This class is designed specifically for beginners. We begin on land with the basics before practicing together on calm water. Your guides stay nearby throughout the experience to offer instruction, encouragement, and help when needed.

Your registration includes a recreational kayak, paddle, properly fitted life jacket, dry bag, safety instruction, beginner paddling instruction, and a guided tour of Lake Acworth. You are welcome to bring your own kayak if you prefer.

This is more than a standard kayak rental. Your equipment is included as part of a fully guided experience. You will learn essential paddling skills before exploring Lake Acworth with an experienced guide.

You will learn how to safely enter and exit a kayak, hold and use your paddle, move forward efficiently, turn, stop, maintain stability, and feel more comfortable on the water. We also cover basic water safety and what to do if your kayak tips over.

After practicing the basics, we will take a relaxed paddle around Lake Acworth. Along the way, your guide may point out local wildlife, plants, and interesting features of the lake. The pace is comfortable and designed for new paddlers.

Our Learn to Kayak class is available for participants ages 8 and older. Children must be comfortable following safety instructions and participating for the full experience.

Wear comfortable clothing that can get wet and secure water shoes or sandals with a back strap. Bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses with a strap, and a change of clothes for afterward. Avoid flip-flops and heavy cotton clothing when possible.

Most participants remain in their kayaks, especially on the calm water of Lake Acworth. Recreational kayaks are designed to be stable and beginner-friendly. We will also explain what to do if you unexpectedly enter the water.

The class and guided tour take place on Lake Acworth in Acworth, Georgia, conveniently located northwest of Atlanta. The class launches from South Shore Park.

Cost for scheduled classes/tours is $70 per person which includes all the equipment, 30 minute instruction and briefing on land and a 2 hour kayak tour along the shoreline with one of our expert guides. Guides will share history of the surrounding area and ecological interpretation as well!
