Frequently Asked Questions
What types of trips does Driftwood offer?
We offer guided kayak and canoe experiences including
Lake and river paddles
Sunset and specialty paddles
Educational and nature-focused tours including classes
Okefenokee Swamp day trips and overnight expeditions
Trips range from relaxed beginner-friendly paddles to immersive multi-day experiences.
Do I need prior kayaking or canoeing experience?
No experience is required for most of our day trips. We provide instruction, safety briefings, and paddle at a relaxed pace. Overnight and multi-day trips are best suited for paddlers comfortable spending several hours on the water.
Are your tours guided?
Yes. All Driftwood trips are full guided. Our guides handle navigation, safety oversight, and share information about the local ecology and history along the way.
What’s included with my tour?
Unless otherwise noted, day tours include:
Kayak or canoe
Paddle
Properly fitted PFD (life jacket)
Dry bag and waterproof phone case
Guided instruction and safety briefing
Required safety equipment
What should I bring?
You’ll receive a detailed packing list before your trip. In general, we recommend:
Water and snacks
Sun protection (hat, sunscreen)
Bug spray
Weather-appropriate clothing
Closed-toe shoes or water shoes
Are there age restrictions? What about pets?
Yes, we only accept children aged 12 and up for safety reasons.
For safety reasons, pets are not permitted on Driftwood tours, including the Okefenokee.
Our tours take place in active waterways and protected natural areas, and we need to ensure the safety of all participants, wildlife, and your pet.
If you are looking for a private experience or have a unique situation, feel free to reach out and we are happy to talk through options.
How long are the tours?
Most standard tours range from 2-3 hours. Specialty paddles, day trips, and overnight expeditions vary and will be clearly listed on the booking page.
How many people are in each group?
We intentionally keep group sizes small to maintain a calm, personal experience and minimize impact on the environment.
Is this family-friendly?
Many of our lake and day tours are suitable for older children who can paddle independently and follow instructions. Overnight trips are best for adults or teens with prior paddling experience. If you’re unsure, reach out! We will be happy to help you decide.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety comes first. Trips may be delayed, adjusted, or rescheduled due to weather or water conditions. If changes are necessary, we’ll communicate as early as possible.
Can I register more than one person at a time?
Each participant must complete their own registration and waiver for safety and liability reasons. This ensures we have accurate information for every paddler.
There is a specific place I want to paddle, but I don’t see it offered. Do you do personalized tours?
YES! If you have a place you would love to paddle that we do not currently offer, we would love to make your dream a reality. Contact us at info@driftwoodpaddling.com and we can help to create a paddling package just for you and your party!
